Gleefully Yours

A fabulous, unique opportunity for amateur music theatre aficionados to work with musical theatre industry professionals – vocally and choreographically!
For those above 18 years of age who are looking for their own performing outlet.
A weeknight activity for grown-ups…a musical theatre “Glee-type Club” designed just for adults!
Six weeks to sing and dance your hearts out, and learn some vocal and dance technique along the way!
What will the sessions be comprised of?
Each three-hour evening will provide the students with techniques to enhance their ability to perform. Some vocal sessions will include vocal technique, music reading, singing in unison and occasionally in harmony. The choreography segments may include some movement exercises, dance technique, as well as choreographic direction/staging of musical numbers. All students will participate in an in-class (informal) performance at the end of the 6-week session. Students will make a class decision - prior to the 6th week - whether or not they wish to invite friends and family to this performance. Participants will prepare in advance of the first class a musical theatre song of their own choice to be performed the first day for the instructors to gauge vocal ranges of the class for harmony assignments.
Is entrance into the program by audition only?
Classes are open to any adult interested in having the opportunity to work with outstanding, seasoned, professional Canadian performing artists. Space is limited, so it’s “first come, first served”. As stated above, everyone must prepare a musical theatre song to perform during the first class, but, unlike our youth program, an audition is not an entrance requirement prior to being admitted.
What are the dates, times and location?
Thursday evenings, from 7:30 – 10:30 pm
April 15, April 22, May 6, May 13, May 20, and May 27. Please note: there is no class scheduled on April 29.
All classes will be held at George Brown College, Casa Loma Campus, 175 Kendal Avenue, Toronto, in one of the college’s dance studios.
The building is on the corner of Davenport Ave and Kendal Ave (between Bathurst and Spadina), immediately south of Casa Loma. The closest subway stop is Dupont (south of the train tracks), about a 5-minute walk from the college. Parking is available just south of the college.
What will you need?
A binder (for music, notes); comfortable clothing; running shoes, jazz shoes, or character shoes; a portable recording device.
What is the cost of the program?
