RALPH SMALL — Acting Department
Ralph has an extensive list of credits as an actor, director, writer and teacher.
As the past resident writer and director for The Edu-tainment Company, he has both written the book for and directed several contemporary musical theatre productions for young people.
As an actor, Ralph has played in theatres all across the country including The Grand, Theatre Aquarius, Jane Mallet, Tarragon Theatre, Charlottetown Festival, National Arts Centre, Theatre New Brunswick, Vancouver Playhouse, and The Lighthouse Festival. He was in the original production of the musical Durante, which played in Toronto and Vancouver before touring to Los Angeles and San Francisco, where an earthquake ended its run.
Ralph’s brushes with fame include sharing the stage with the likes of Elliot Gould, Frank Gorshin, Richard Monette, Dinah Christie, and working with many film stars including Brian Dennehy, Ed Harris and most recently, Tom Selleck. Directors he has worked with include David Cronenberg, John Boorman and James Lapine.
Ralph has also appeared in numerous film and television productions, such as Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Crash, Traders, Forever Knight, TekWar, Life with Mikey and Jack Reed V.
As a teacher and guest artist, Ralph has taught at Ryerson, York University, Brock University and is much in demand as a private coach and consulting director. He is presently on staff in the joint music theatre program at Erindale (UTM) and Sheridan Colleges. He also recently joined the staff at George Brown College in Toronto.
Upcoming credits include directing a Norm Foster comedy, "Maggie’s Getting Married" for the Haliburton Summer Festival, and co-starring in a new Canadian comedy called "Separate Beds" for the Lighthouse Festival in Port Dover. His latest musical, Whiskey Serenade, first produced in Toronto in 2003, is currently in resurrection.
